About Us
10 Years of Purposeful Action
Biome Foundation has been working at the intersection of people and planet since 2016 — building resilient communities, restoring ecosystems, and championing the dignity of every life.
Our Story
Born from the Forest, Built for Communities
Biome Foundation was established in 1999 by a group of ecologists, educators, and community workers who believed that lasting change could only come from within communities themselves. Starting with a single reforestation project in the Western Ghats, we quickly realised that environmental health and human wellbeing are inseparable.
Over the next two decades, our work expanded to encompass education, healthcare, renewable energy, and women's empowerment — always guided by the principle that communities are the experts of their own lives. Today, Biome Foundation operates across 12 states in India, partnering with over 500 villages and touching the lives of more than 10,000 families every year.
We are registered as a non-profit organisation under the Societies Registration Act and are fully compliant with FCRA regulations. Our work is supported by individual donors, corporate partners, and institutional funders who share our vision of a just and sustainable India.
Mission, Vision & Values
Mission
To empower marginalised communities through integrated programs in education, health, environment, energy, and gender equity — fostering self-reliance, dignity, and ecological balance.
Vision
A just and sustainable India where every community thrives in harmony with nature, and every individual has the opportunity to realise their full potential.
Community First
Every decision begins and ends with the communities we serve. Their voices shape our programs.
Ecological Integrity
We believe human flourishing and environmental health are one and the same.
Transparency
We hold ourselves accountable to our donors, partners, and communities through open reporting.
Inclusion
We prioritise the most marginalised — women, tribal communities, and those furthest from opportunity.
Collaboration
We work with governments, civil society, and the private sector to multiply our impact.
Long-term Thinking
We invest in systemic change, not quick fixes — building capacity that outlasts our presence.
